Welcome to the official Libertarian Longhorns Blog!
The Libertarian Longhorns is a group of students at the University of Texas at Austin dedicated to the ideal of liberty. We are a small-l libertarian group, meaning that we are non-partisan, and we are primarily focused on educating one another on libertarian theory and its application to current events. We are allied with the Young Americans For Liberty national organization, a continuation of Students for Ron Paul.
LL/YAL holds joint meetings every other week during active sessions on the UT-Austin campus. We frequently bring in well-known speakers from outside UT-Austin, in the past we have hosted Dr. Mary Ruwart, Barry Cooper, Jim Lark, Pat Dixon, and Gil Guillory.
On off weeks, we like to spend time with each other just having fun and socializing. It’s important for libertarians to have these sorts of opportunities because being a a libertarian can frequently be lonely work! We often host libertarian-themed movie nights, watching great documentaries and other great films of an anti-statist nature.
There are many ways you can keep up with our events and activist efforts. First, all events are posted on this blog, and you can see the details of our next event in the sidebar on the left. Second, you can join our Facebook Group, and you will be sent event invitations whenever we create FB events. We also have an official UT Listserv for announcements. During the semester, we only send out one or two messages a week about our events (an announcement and a day-of event reminder). You can join the Listserv by clicking here and following the instructions.
