Oh my. Where to begin? Here; let me parse the last segment of the above 'Don't Tread on Me' meme, in the context of today's reality, rather than the rarefied air wafting around the graves of academe:

---“Don’t Tread” reminds those in government who really retains the power."---

Well, yes it did, originally. Today, if the power can't be wielded by a once-per-four-years ballot...or by a golf club...or a television remote...or a credit card...then the average American will not wield it. Consider this ongoing 'Tea Party' mania, for all love; marching around with a poster, like a piss-stained groundling at bad theater? What part of informed self-government is THAT?

---" Though a slick politician may mouth that they work for you, few believe it. Rather, they believe they are smarter than you, and they use the force of government to restrict your choices and control your life according to their views."---

No, actually, the world has changed little since the marauding hordes descended from the northern steppes on the befuddled people of Europe...or from the north sea, on the isles of Britain...or on the blood-drenched temples of the Inca, Maya, and Aztec, as the equally blood-drenched Spaniards took booty.

It's all about money, and the love of it, and what men will do for it. The politician is a mechanic of the machinery of human sin; he doesn't think he's smarter than the 'taxpayer'...he and the befuddled 'taxpayer' prove it every day.

The corrupt politician (is that redundant?) games the system; in American context, he knows that he works for the military-industrial complex...for whatever big petro, big pharma, big military, big insurance, big medical, big auto...legislative draftsman pushes the next bill onto his desk for signature. (No, he doesn't read it; he trusts his handlers to treat him right.)

---"Fortunately, more and more individuals are figuring out that just because some legislators pass legislation, that does not make it just." ---

Um...like I said, "more and more" individuals are still rather clueless; marching with posters at present. A blight on our forefathers, frankly. More like so many Iranians or North Koreans or something. They may know that something's very wrong; more than that, they scarcely know. At least not yet; and so the political machines, both of them, will have their way with this population as they have done, since time out of mind.

---"They recognize the difference between man-made laws, which are produced by governments, and natural rights, which individuals possess by virtue of being human beings regardless of whether government recognizes and protects those rights or not."---

There you are describing perhpas 1/2 of one percent of the population of voting age...those who understand Biblical and natural law, and its nexus with, say, the Dooms of Aethelred or Magna Carta, or the U.S. Constitution.

---"And individuals, being sovereign with their own personal values and self-interests, are ready to defend themselves and others from aggression, whether the aggressor happens to be a common criminal or an agent of the State."---

Well, as I said before, they are manifestly NOT ready to defend themselves against lawless, feckless monsters parading about as their "public servants". Those few who ARE ready to go on defense, look here for a plan of action:

Those few who are ready to go on OFFENSE for the rest of Ameican history, as our forefathers surely expected us to do and as is our duty to posterity, go here, and join:

The thing about theories is that they are ubiquitous and free; the thing about human liberty is that it is so very rare in human history, and very costly. The tombstone of a civilisation can be laid at precisely that point where truth is no longer defended, because it cannot be known.

In politics -- especially with trillions of dollars at stake annually -- many things will parade about, wearing the tag 'truth'.

Test them with the Law, as a fire. See?

Truth does exist, as does liberty...only once in a very long time on the earth. It is precious; worth fighting for.

Let us hope that "more and more individuals" begin to seek tactical wisdom, or the divided, conquered ones will scarce be heard in the arena, over the din of politics and citizen apathy.
