Wow, do we have an exciting month of events coming up! There are tons of things going on, so please make sure to mark your calendar and to pay close attention to our Facebook group events as they are added! Here is what’s going on up until the end of April…
Monday 3/30 – Concealed Carry on Campus Forum with Student Government
From Jeremy Hodes: The Texas House Public Safety Committee has a hearing scheduled 2 pm in E2.014 on HB 1893 which would defend your 2nd Amendment rights on campus. Your SG pres, Keshav, has sent messages out to the student body urging gun control advocates to show up and say how scared of guns they are. We need to show up and say we won’t stand for more trampling on the U.S. Constitution. Don’t Tread on Me!
We need to keep up this fight for 2nd Amendment rights, so lookout for the Facebook event and be there!
Monday 3/30 – Public Forum on Vampire Cops at Austin City Hall
From the Stop Vampire Cops blog/website:
Come and talk with Police Chief Art Acevedo, MADD rep Karen Houseright, City Councilman Mike Martinez, Texans for Accountable Government Steering Committee member John Bush, and the ACLU’s Debbie Russell about the Federal Grant that Police Cheif Acevedo is trying to implement in Austin, TX.
Acevedo promised to have public input before going forward with the Federal Grants, yet he took no steps to reach out to the public so we’ve reached out to him. We invited him to City Hall so that he could hear from the people!
Date: Monday, March 30, 2009
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Location: City Council Chambers, Austin City Hall
This is an extremely important event that we need as many people to attend as possible. Thus, we are canceling our regular meeting in order to go to City Hall. I would highly suggest using the Capital Metro Bus Line for transportation from campus if you do not have a vehicle, but feel free to coordinate rides as you see fit.

This event is open to the public and we hope that you will invite all your friends to learn why the War on Drugs is so horrible and what they can do about it. It’s a great opportunity to make a real impact!

Wednesday 4/15 – Tax Day Coalition with Young Americans for Liberty
The head Young Americans For Liberty office has just announced today (3/26) a national event to protest the income tax scheduled for April 15th – the dreaded Tax Day when our USA overlords have declared that we must pay our tribute to them. Lets send a message to the government on 4/15 that we will not stay silent about theft any longer!
See the official Tax Day Coalition website and sign up! You’ll hear more about this as we approach the event, but please make sure and sign up RIGHT NOW.
Time: All day. Location: Probably the West Mall (tabling).
Monday 4/20 – Tom Mullen speaks at Libertarian Longhorns / YAL Meeting
Tom Mullen is the author of A Return to Common Sense: Reawakening Liberty in the Inhabitants of America. We are honored to have him talk about America’s founding principles in this special talk and discussion session. He will be traveling all the way from Florida to speak to us, so we want to make sure to welcome him with a great audience. Please make sure to be there! He will have plenty of copies of his book available as well, so check it out and bring some extra cash. It will be well worth it!
Time: 8pm. Location: ETC 2.114.
Regretfully, this event has been cancelled.
